HVERIR GEOTHERMAL AREA
In northern Iceland, in the Námaskarð area around Myvatn Lake is Hverir, a high-temperature geothermal area with fumaroles and steaming, bubbling mud pits. The steam from these pits lingers low in the air, clinging to the surrounding hills. A strenuous hike up Mt. Námafjall rewards you with sweeping views of this other-worldly landscape, the only evidence of mankind seen in the narrow road slicing through the landscape and in tracks leaving imprints in the earth.
